MY HERO ESSAY
By April Bryant
Bridge School Alumni, 17 years old

Some people don't help their parents. I wonder why? Maybe it's their father or mother that don't want to be helped. Or one of the parents don't like that one specific child to help them. I think a hero is someone who helps another without payment. My granny is a everyday hero because her mom got Alzheimer's (my granny calls it old timers), so she helps her out.

My granny helps her mom out because she is old and sick. Everyday my granny's brother comes up at 3 A.M. to watch his mother until my granny gets off of work. When she gets off, she'll give her mother a bath and feed her. Her mom doesn't even know her own daughter. My granny is tired because her mom stays up all night, talking about the past and thinking she's sewing or knitting when she doesn't have anything in her hand. On Thanksgiving, my granny had to stay home with her mother while my family was at my auntie's house.

My granny does a lot of things for other people and doesn't expect anything in return. One time we went to a McDonald's and she gave a homeless person some money. One of her co-workers might need some money and she will give it to them, if she has it. When her friend's mother died, my granny gave her $300 and expected nothing in return. She has a hard time saying no.

A lot of people ask my granny questions and she gives them positive responses. When my granny's friend's mom died, she gave her positive advice. One of her co-workers or family members might ask her a personal question about his or her life and she'll talk to them, ask questions, and then give the positive advice.
