Last fall children, families and staff had the pleasure to work with Tim Lefens from Artistic Realization Technologies, a program from Belle Mead, New Jersey, to create amazing paintings. Tim and his assistant spent a wonderful day a Bridge School. They provided our students with techniques and tools to create and empower them with a critical means of self-expression, Art. Students each had the opportunity to work one-on-one with Tim to create, emote, reflect, and paint. The process was powerful. At the end of the day, the students were drained, spent, and elated. Those of us who were observers were touched, enriched, and amazed.

Tim eloquently described the students and the process. He stated, "The people we work with have proven to the world that their lives are rich and as full of light as any other being. Achieving this has not been easy. It is natural for the able-bodied to shy from the appearance of the severely disabled. The thing we celebrate is that our students finally have a way to dispel this perception. Through their work, they have demonstrated that they possess exceptional character; character that has not been deadened by their dysfunctional bodies, but has instead been tempered and made more acute by the challenges they have survived. All they needed was a means of expression. Now they have one."
